Project Genie alternatives: world-model access options

Last updated:

Project Genie needs a Google AI Ultra plan (from $99.99/month in the US), and Genie 4 is still invite-only. If that rules you out, these world models are open today. Some are web apps, one has a public API, and some are open source you can run yourself. We list what each one is, how to get it, and what it costs, using only official sources.

Three ways to use a world model today

A web app

Sign in and play in your browser. Project Genie works this way but needs Ultra, an age of 18+ and a supported country. World Labs’ Marble is a web app with a free plan, and Odyssey links an experience you can try from its homepage.

A public API

Call the model from your own code. World Labs launched a public World API for Marble in January 2026. Odyssey’s homepage has a “Get API Access” link; check its conditions there. Genie 4 has no public API yet.

Open-source code

Download the model and run it yourself. Tencent’s HunyuanWorld 1.0 and Skywork’s Matrix-Game publish code and model weights on GitHub. You need your own hardware and some setup, and you should read each license.

Prices checked October 28, 2026. Marble’s pricing page shows dollar amounts without saying which currency or region, so we copy them as shown; its API is billed separately. Google AI Ultra is the US price in USD. Open-source models are free to download, but running them needs your own hardware.

The alternatives in detail

Marble — World Labs

Marble from World Labs generates explorable 3D worlds from text, images, panoramas, multiple views or video. You can render the result on the web or export it into other tools, and World Labs pitches it for design and creative work. The Marble app has a free plan and paid plans at $20, $35 and $95 per month. Developers can use the public World API, launched January 21, 2026, which generates worlds asynchronously and has its own API keys, billing and docs.

HunyuanWorld 1.0 — Tencent

HunyuanWorld 1.0 from Tencent generates explorable 3D worlds from text or an image. It builds each scene from a 360° panorama and can export it as a 3D mesh. Tencent publishes the code, model downloads and setup instructions on GitHub, so you can run it on your own machine. Its GitHub page does not list a hosted app or paid API. This entry covers version 1.0 specifically.

Matrix-Game 4.0 — Skywork AI

Matrix-Game is Skywork AI’s series of open-source interactive world models. Version 4.0 takes a different approach from Genie: a real game engine handles gameplay, physics and player input, and an AI video model turns simple low-poly frames into rich visuals. Skywork publishes the inference code, a browser demo and the game source on GitHub. Its GitHub page does not list a hosted app or paid API.

Odyssey — Odyssey

Odyssey builds foundation world models that, in its words, learn the physics, dynamics, cause-and-effect and human behaviors of the world. Its homepage links a “Try Odyssey-3” experience and a “Get API Access” page for developers. Pricing is not listed on the homepage, and we have not confirmed whether API access is open to everyone, so check the conditions on Odyssey’s developer site.

How to choose

Know what you want out

These tools produce different things. Marble and HunyuanWorld give you a 3D scene you can export. Genie and Odyssey generate a live, interactive world. Matrix-Game pairs a game engine with AI visuals. Pick the one that matches the output you need.

App price is not API price

A monthly app plan covers using the provider’s app. APIs are usually billed separately; Marble says so on its pricing page. Open-source models are free to download, but you pay for the hardware to run them.

Why we do not rank them

We have not tested these models side by side, so we do not rank them or pick a winner. Everything here comes from each provider’s official pages. When a detail is not published, we say so instead of guessing.
